Let’s talk about the leaves on this Calathea – lance-shaped with wavy edges that can grow up to 30 inches in length. The colouring of this tropical plant is also something to shout about, with dark green spots decorating its leaves, coupled with undersides in burgundy red tones. Like other Calathea plants, the Rattlesnake will move it’s leaves up at night and lower them in the day in accordance with its circadian rhythm.
We told you the Rattlesnake had good leaves – so good they’re not just admired by fellow plant fanatics like ourselves, but in their native Brazil they are used for handicrafts and food wrapping.
This plant isn’t overly difficult to care for, but it won’t tolerate neglect either. Infrequent water or cooler temperatures could cause it to die. Avoid using shine products on any dusty leaves, instead just wipe them down with a damp cloth occasionally.
